How am I the first one to mention Alice in Chains??? They tune down a half step for just about every one of their songs. When you play them on acoustic they sound sweet. My friends and I have recorded a few covers, and posted one (Nutshell) awhile back.

Eb Ab(G#) Db(C#) Gb(F#) Bb Eb

basically your standard guitar tuned down one fret

Ben Harper seems to tune down often as well.

he used to tune down a whole step because he could sing better in that range. I think he might play standard now that his voice is better

I keep my electric 1/2 step down and try to put the thickest strings I can find on there.

Don't break your guitar's neck, though!
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

1. Do any of you do this?
2. Will it hurt my guitar in any way?
I've done this a couple of times, it makes the guitar sound a little more gruff, I like it. A lot of rock songs, especially from the early 90's are 1/2 step down.

This will not damage your guitar to my knowledge.

Add Nirvana to that list, which I guess qualifies under grunge.

fret the 6th fret string of the E and tune down til it matches the A string, that string is now an Eb, fret the 5th fret on the E and tune the A string to match it, proceed like normal
