A Little Ditty

Hey all.

Here is something I made last night. I layed down a basic rythym track G-Cadd9-D-Cadd9 and played some lead over it.

Im not sure what Im looking for here, I guess mostly if you can critique the lead. I never really play lead unless it is already transcribed for me, but this is more or less improv. I suggest listenting to it 3 or 4 times till the riff becomes catchy in your head. Then you can critique me. (it's only a minute clip.)

*note: I recorded the rythym using a standard computer mic.
I then played that as a wav file and had my microphone pick up that rythym and lead while I was playing it. (Turn Volume up)

Im getting my Cool Edit back up and running this weekend where Im sure it will sound 20x better. So I apologize for the crappy quality.

I broke that section out of a .wav I was working in. Some of it was left in there.

Thanks for the comment though. Any suggestions? Im looking hard because im trying to teach myself & it is frustrating.

i know you got the scale from me, but when its instrumental try to expand the amount of notes you're hitting. try jumping an octave, etc

your lead guitar generates a very nice vibe. I like it. There are a few slips with your timing but since I'm no better, I shall shut up.
A little advice to spruce the whole thing up a bit is to play some more slides, bendings, hammer and pull-offs, which in my opinion makes it sound more interesting.

I wish I could implement those a bit easier. (slides, pull offs)

Right now Im concentraing on getting a melody down which is very hard because I have no musical theory in my background. Thanks for listening.

You had some good melody going on. It was nearly all scaler though and sounded a little too pentatonic. Try skipping strings, changing position, sliding, hammer ons, pull offs etc. The only "guitaristic" device you seemed to be using were bends, you were executing them well though.
Explore basic major, minor, and dominant arpeggios. They help to visualize where the chord tones are so you can instantly play an "inside" melody when you need to.
Most importantly practice your rhythms. Play an open string and try switching randomly between half, quarter, eigth, and sixteenth note rhythms. You can even divide the beat by odd numbers i.e. quintuplets, septuplets etc. A metronome is a must.

I think it's a pretty cool little thing, keep working on trying out the other little fun effects like everyone else said, but I thought it sounded nice.

took the words right out of my mouth, except i think that the bends could have been executed better, he was creating some harsh "non-tones" with them
