well thanks for the help while it lasted, I'm just working on trying to write my own, stuff, that's my ultimate goal. and im getting better a little bit everyday at making up riffs and stuff

Thats the way to do it, just have fun and do not limit yourself. Another thing I find helps is to record every new riff and song I write and listen to it. Then you can get the semblance of a listener perspective and can adjust your sound accordingly.

and getting back to perfect pitch - its kind of you know or you don't - i know i don't but a good friend of mine who is an amazing people player has it for sure - he'd play the piano at my house (which hasn't been tuned in years) and like you guys said, just get a little annoyed- it was kinda fun to test him haha, i'd play a random note on my guitar and make it so it was a bit out of tune by moving the string up or down - he got it everytime - hes a musical genius

i read in national geographic, they did a study at berkley (sp?) amongst music students. 63% of asians had the ability to identify notes with perfect pitch while only 7% of other students could. They concluded that because of languages like chinese and korean that have used tone and pitch as apart of their language for thousands of years, that asians are genetically predispositioned to have perfect pitch. thought that was cool.
