folky chords?

hey, um i was playin around and tryin to make a song. and normaly i dont do this but what are some neet chords to play around w/ that arent like barr chords? the ones i "made" are:

-5---s-------3--s--------------
-6---t-------2---t--4p2--4p2-
-4---r-------x---r-----x------x
-5---u-------3--u--------------
-x---m------0--m-------------

something like that kinda sound to it. i hope the tabs show up, first time making them (by hand too)

its all in how you play it, i do something i call of center syncopated strumming on some things, and it makes it sound folky or blue grass or however i want it. i can made a complicated chord sound that way, or a regular G, so sometimes its all in the playing.

Folk songs usually are comprised of standard open position chords at the top of the neck.

G C D, etc.

Of course you can write a folk song using any chords you like, many if not most folk songs are comprised of open chords.

its funny how fol music has really lots its true definition. it seems that folk now is just a guy with a guitar singing over simple chords.

i'll give somebody a cookie if they can tell me what folk music really is

Its orginally a way of telling history through generations I think. Obviously set to music.

The first recorded evidence around Homer's time (The Illiad).

i guess you could look at it that way

i think technically its supposed to be music with a message, usually a political one. its also closely associated with local music (which is a nice way of saying music of the lower classes) bob dylan is an example of folk music defined correctly

and the reason its associated with simple chords is because any hippie could pick up a guitar and start banging away on three chords, so thats what they did during the folk revival in the 60's

Country is a 4/4 European Waltz with Celtic progressions and Hungarian Minor scales.

So I'd guess folk is right along those lines.
