WHEN & WHY

...did you start playing guitar.

I started playing about 12 years ago seriously but fiddled around back in 1990 with buddy's guitar.

I started playing because I have always wanted to play an instrument. I played piano/keyboard prior to picking up a guitar but wasn't exactly fullfilled with it. Then DMb hit the scene in 94 and I was aching to make those riffs Dave was producing. From then on it's been history.....

Now, IM just a causal player with no real interest to get better. Of course we all want to get better but I mean I dont want to sit around for 8 hours a day or even 3 and practice. If a need to learn a song for an upcoming gig then I will practice but otherwise I just play to fill my ADD void.

Dave was the main reason, although I love almost anything accoustic. I bought a guitar about 3 years ago, barely played it. Then my mom started learning and taking lessons about 1-1.5 years ago, and I was like if she can do it then so can I. Very happy with my progress, but I still have a long way to go.

Cool. Your mom got you started! I always asked for a guitar when I was younger, but we were somewhat poor at the time. Hence, I neevr got one till I could afford one myself. Thats about the time my parents started doing really well financially. :evil:

I've had my own guitar for less than 2 years, but fiddled around with my girlfriend's for a few months before that. She had gotten one for Christmas and I picked it up just to mess around and ended up picking out the Two Step chorus bassline. I was like: Hey! this is fun. I can do this. So I got one, found this site and haven't looked back since. Learning songs you love makes it so much easier to keep picking the instrument up every day.

Could not be said any better!

Yeah, my mom got me going at it again. Like I said, I bought a guitar about 3 years ago, tried songs that were way out of my league and gave up till MOMMY started playing and getting good. :D

i started playing because i heard dave and thought the sound he was getting out of the guitar was really cool, the getting the chicks aspect happened after i was decent enough to play within earshot of a girl, there is something about an acoustic guitar that girls cant resist

None of the reasons in the poll I can tell you that. LOL!

I play because I love music and even banging out a couple of chords to a fave song is bliss to me.
