Pain - Crash Into Me (current)

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Pain - Crash Into Me (current)

Post by tjmac66pc »

okay, there's probably been a post on this...once or twice, or even eleven of them...but time for an updated version...

i've been playin' for about 5 years now(almost 6, which amazes me when i sit back and think about it)...obviously stamina and strength have improved as well as quickness and whatnot...

i was wondering, how many of you still get sore when you play songs like crash...granted, i have small hands which may mean that it might take me a little bit longer to get thru this ordeal...but i can play crash 'perfectly' (as clean as possible for my standards), BUT it's still VERY difficult for me to get thru the whole song...which is a little frustrating..and when i do try and play the whole song (rare occasion) my left hand is basically in agony...

i do my typical jiu-jitsu stretches before i play (most of the time anyway) but is still does not get me over this hump...i was curious as to what you guys would suggest in trying to improve this...i suppose i could just dedicate like a month of just playing 'crash' to fix it, but we all know how boring that would get...any suggestions?

thanks  :?:

That's typical. Watch Dave, his hands get tired as well. He switches to the alternate way when his hand gets tired.

So, just switch when you get tired.

I was playing Crash the other day and noticed my hand cramping pretty badly. I have been playing this song since 96 too. Don't feel bad...

What you can do is tune the d string up to an e and play that e note open.

Much practice, it will come my friend.

Look at Timmy, his hands aren't THAT big. Practice and being able to do stretches slowly and accurately will yield better results later, you'll be able to play faster.

There is a version of Crash into Me that Dave plays because even the great one's hand cramped like a mofo.

What version is that?

If Im playign a song like that for a gig. I will usually play it ten times a day before the gig so It doesn't hurt. Then I wont play it for a few weeks and Im back to where I started at.

It just comes easier to me I guess. I've been playing for 9 months now and it's pretty easy for me.

My hands are by no means huge either. I think I'm double jointed, I don't know for sure though.

Actually "version" it might not be, but there is a way that Dave "cheats" and plays a different verse. It's on this site.

I'll check it out.

EDIT: I could not do that. It wouldn't sound like Crash without the pinky. Ahhhh. The benefits of having a band back you up.
