i practice both ways whihever i feel most comfortable playing a song like take crash for examplae i always play that with my fingers and just hit the bass note with my thumb it all ussually depend if i can find a pick or not in my messy ass room :D

for me a lot of the stuff i play uses a lot of strumming, so im pretty particular towards using a pick, if i want to play individual strings while strumming i just palm mute or mute the strings i dont want to hear, it make not be as melodic i guess a fingerpicking but i guess its all about your own style
