rapunzel timing

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Up down doesn't tell me when to rest, etc, this is one of the shortcomings of tab. Sometimes you can't play a song a certain way, but if you start using a downstroke instead of an upstoke it will come much easier. Everyone is different...showing up/down strokes won't help shit for one person, but for another it could be a godsend. I've NEVER paid attention to that kind of thing, just know the time signature and listen to the song, if after that point you can't figure it out you dont deserve to learn the song.

A tab is a recipe.. It's all up to the cook to make it sound good.

I don't know time signatures for shit, but I also know that very rarely do up/down stroke indicators help me, either. I just have to 'feel' the rhythm, which I can usually do pretty succesfully after hearing a song a couple of times. Maybe it's just an inheirant feel for the timing, but don't ask me to tell you the time sig. 'cause I'll just give you a blank stare.

And nice metaphor jelly. :)

But also, common sense would also allow you to figure out a song easier. A downbeat would commonly indicate a downstroke and the opposite for an upbeat. So you can break that down and see where the notes fall and there you go. But that is also comming from a drummers point of view where I try to keep alternating strokes.

Either did I until I took Intro to Guitar, it surprisingly helped quite a bit from a technical standpoint.
