rapunzel timing

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

It doesnt really matter the down strokes and the up strokes (god I hate that way of showing time) but it would be more important to give him the time signature so he can find what fits best.

yup, 5/4, the verse is 4/4 (as well as the jam) and the bridge is 6/8.

Is easier to think of 5/4 as being one bar of 3/4 and one of 2/4 or: One- two-three-One-two.

i find the up and down tabs more useful. having it while playing guitar is like a metronome. its easier than trying to listen to a song and applying a time signature, because when you do that, your basicly figuring out what to play on what stroke. which is what the u/d tabs show you. but thats just me.

actually, when you write a song you should just find out what is most convienient and allows you to play witht the most consistency.

And besides, "up downs" is a He-man Bitch-slap to the face of musicianship.

I disagree with this...Knowing what up and down strokes is crucial in this song. Maybe not in other songs, but definitely makes a difference in this one. Up and down stroke tabs for this song is a good idea.

I onyl need to know it was 5/4 it get it right. I use different strokes then what Duffman tabbed out and I sound fine. Do you think Dave sat down and made sure he had certain up/down strokes? Of course not (granted he wrote the song) but it shouldnt be any different for you. Play what comes natrual and flows.

i'm not sure that he did or didn't and neither are you, but that's what makes him Dave Matthews. Meaning, every detail matters IMO. You can't just play the chords of the songs.

Hell, I feel ike a loser. I can play just about all Dave songs but have no clue about time signatures & all that jazz. So in that case the Up/Down would help me along with the CD of the song.
