Listen to the song and try to figure out exactly where it starts. Slow down and try it. Or just get as close as you can and recover by cutting something short/extending it.

It's in a count of Five. Just do that and boom, you're done.

good method.. slow waayyy down. once you get it down when playing it slow, gradually build the speed. this pretty much works with anything you're trying to learn on guitar.

I never slowed down to learn a song, I try to learn to play it by singing it. I associate the parts I'm singing with the guitar riff played there.

Try that, just start singing and chime in w/the guitar.

You're probably trying to enter in on the fourth count every time, and that's why you're off.

If I had my guitar here, I could write it out for you, but alas, I'm at work.

The problem with let you down is that it the main part is in 3/4, but timmy's guitar plays lots of little fills that seem to throw the timing off. You have to be able to key into daves guitar so that you can stick with the timing and anticipate when he switches to 6/8 timing for the "I have no lid upon my head..." part.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
