I've never been to Italy so I can't say, that was more of a joke. But most italians I know (family) aren't very fond of "outsiders." Anyway, I want to go to Italy more than any other place in the world. And if I do make it there I wonder how I will get treated considering I'm 50% Italian but don't look italian at all, which I'm sure you've noticed.

I too found for the ferench to be very nice. I think that's how you can gauge if you are a stereotypical american jack-ass or not.
If the french are nice to you, you are probably a cool guy, but if they are mean to you, you neeed to go home and re-evaluate how you talk to and treat others.
