I don't think I've ever seen anyone post or even mention Dave's #40, which has only ever been played live as far as I know. Anyway, I think it's a beautiful song and tried to record a cover, which didn't work out that well. Fact is, it's a tough song to learn how to sing, but here's a hack attempt at it (only the first verse and chorus)...
I used Cool Edit Pro to record the guitar and voice separately, and you might notice that I jumped into the chorus too quickly in my guitar part And for the first time, I added some reverb to the voice to see if it sounds better. Let me know what you think.
Good job, that is a damn tough vocal line to learn correctly, and yes it is beautiful song. Nice chorus thats a hard note to hit without going into falsetto.
Laughter come on downtown window
And we see faces walking back
Tonight everybody gonna remember
Remember in time...
you did a really good job.. I wouldn't even touch that vocal part (for obvious reasons if you have heard me sing) .. but I wanted to point out that you are playing the accents in the verse a little wrong.. listen to this.. http://scottdial.com/files/n40verse.mp3 .. and I apologize for the buzzing low F.. I need to adjust the neck

Wow, you are absolutely right! I was comparing yours and mine to the version I have of Dave playing it (VH1), and yours is right on. I play a couple of little extra notes in the verse that throw it right off! Thanks for the tip and for your version

Thank you! Yeah, my voice is funny - some days it works, some days it doesn't Thanks for the feedback!
