also, what gage do you guys commonly use. I love the gage that came with my guitar but i have no idea what gage they are.
Polyweb vs. Nanoweb Strings
Polyweb vs. Nanoweb Strings
Well, I never used to buy nice strings, just whatever I could get for cheap. But my new Alvarez came with Elixers on it and god damn, who would have guessed the difference they could make
so now it is time to replace them so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the polywebs are worth the extra money, or maybe what makes them better?

i use mediums, most people use lights. i prefer nanos to polys but i like good ole d'darrios more.

I have d'darios on my other acoustic and they are rough as fuck and dull compared to the elixers.praisedave wrote:i use mediums, most people use lights. i prefer nanos to polys but i like good ole d'darrios more.
hmmm, I was looking into lights or extra lights. I assume my guitar came with regular lights then.
do you know what the difference between the two are tough? nano vs poly?
i personnally like the rugged feel of the strings, i slip of the other damn ones.checkii wrote:I have d'darios on my other acoustic and they are rough as fuck and dull compared to the elixers.praisedave wrote:i use mediums, most people use lights. i prefer nanos to polys but i like good ole d'darrios more.

i dont understand your second question... the difference between the two i guess. polyweb are supposed to last longer and be more durable at the sacrifice of some sound i think, but im not an expert on these "lah dee dah" strings

polywebs have more of the elixir coating, making them feel better and make less sound when moving along them and stuff.
i find that elixirs are VERY tinny for the first couple days, but once you play them enough theyll sound incredible. im a big fan of polys, and i use 11's on my Alvarez.

The only strings Ill ever buy are Elixir Nanoweb Light Mediums. I like Nanowebs more than Polywebs because they have the same protective coating but its thinner so your strings dont feel like someone dumped grease all over them, and Ive tried all different gauges and Light Mediums have consistently been my favorite, not too light, not too heavy.

ok heres what you should know:
Nanoweb: Regular coating, feel like regular string, but durable like the polyweb. Maybe cheaper
Polyweb: This slick coating is verry slippery on your finger at first. but NOTE: it wears off after a week, and the feel is amazing. then after 1 more week or two, the slick coating is gonna be gone and it will feel like regular strings.
Gauges: I wouldnt go with extra light, light is preset default for most guitars, and preferable. It's your feel. I personally think medium is too rough on acoustic. but still feel like XLight on electric.
I recommend polyweb light. Being it's awesome the first few weeks. The sound is amazing and worth the money.

I dont change my sdtrings often and live near the beach,. i need string to last cause i'm poor.
So I guess I should go with the nanoweb lights.
and ya, i like extralights on my strat, so i think mediums on an acoustic would be a big variance.
