loop pedals

Post by mangold »

okay. this is one aspect of guitar crap i got no experience with. i got no idea how these things work, what brands/models are decent etc. somebody pleez educate me.

when your playin do you just hit a pedal to start the loop and then hit it again to end it? does it repeat automatically? is it hard to time? can you do multiple loops over one another?

any info is appriciated! thanks in advance!

look at the boss loop station pedal on musiciansfriend. that is probably the most advanced looper out. i'd post a link but am lazy and don't want to explain how they work.

Look up the Boomerang phrase sampler if you want simplicity. If you want more capability go for the RC-20.

Keller Williams started with a boomerang and now uses a Gibson Echoplex.

EDIT: If you want the king of all loopers check out the Echoplex.

okay, but how are they used... like can i just be playing a progression and then tap my foot at the first beat of said progression and then on the last beat of it too and have it start looping automatically?

Basically, but you'd have to press the button just before the first beat and just after the last.

i know on the boss you tap it, it goes in, yo go till you want it to stop recording and stop looping, and tap it again... then it loops, and you can change the speed, tim, whatever, and then tap when it needs to stop.

well i have the boss, its awesome (for me) for playing around with my own stuff by myself but i havent been able to use it in the band setting cuz i cant get the time just right so that the drummer can play along and stuff...in other words, i still cant do it well enough. but a great feature is the auto-start where you tell it to start recording when you start playing...that lets you worry about getting when it stops only, so you can do an auto-start, do a riff 4 times, and then stop, which isnt too hard, and then you can press the record again and overlap stuff on top. quite fun if you ask me.

It takes practice, just like everything else. You won't get it to sound like Howie or Keller the first time you try it. With enough practice, youc an.
