When You Dont Know the Chord...do this!

Post by gumbomadness »

Note: You dont kneed to know any theory for this!

I made this diagram...

This will help you when you don't know how to play a certain chord. I know they have those programs that tell you how to play whatever you type in..., but these are moveable shapes that are easy to remember so you dont need a computer!

This will help you with Major, Minor, Dominant 7th, Minor 7th, Major 7th, and Minor 7b5 chords!

A.k.a:

things that look like this,
?, ?m, ?7, ?m7, ?ma7, ?m7b5

Look here, (and save it if you want):

http://citruzjazz.250free.com/BarreChords.JPG

If the instructions on how to use are a little confusing, tell me and ill try to fix it.

Maybe this can be a sticky...

Well, know your string names.. EADGBE..
and then know what your FIRST fret is... (memorize)

(Then, know THIS pattern:)
and know that the notes go like this:
A B C D E F G A
thats obvious..
but the notes arent spaced the same. (look at the diagram at the verry bottom of the chord diagrams)

Just know, that there is a space of one fret inbetween ALLL your notes EXCEPT B and C (no space) and E and F (no space)

So... take your E string... your first fret is F. the second fret, is F sharp, the 3rd is g, the 4th is g sharp, the 5th is A, the 6th is A sharp, the 7th is B.. BUT NO SPACE BETWEEN B and C, so the 8th fret is NOT B sharp, its C!!

Look at my chord diagram, that should help.

Also..if you want to get technical... B# (read B-sharp) IS a C, but you only need to know that for scales and hoo hah.
Was that all just confusing?
IM me if you need more help.

There's been an arguement like that in just about every thread concerning Dave and his style. I think everyone steals from someone else, you don't just pick up a guitar and think, hey, I'm making up this style that is totally different from everyone else... You learn from others and eventually become more unique. So who cares if you sound like someone else? I really enjoyed it, keep it up man.
