Truncated Grey Street

Post by onemoredrink »

Why does dave keep playing the truncated version of Grey Street? He started it back in December halfway through the winter tour and since then nearly every version has been a shortened version. I saw him live in DC on 12/22, it definitely seemed to take a lot out of the performance. The crowd was caught off guard and alot of the energy from a powerful song was lost. Personally i think if he can't play the whole song he shouldnt play it at all.

I dont think the song has been shortened....maybe they've shortened the jam. Either way if they did it is probably because they think it's better that way. There's only so much you can do with Grey street anyway.

This is close to one of the dumbest comments i've ever heard....I dont even want to get into that...

don't have an opinion on this, but kudos on the use of the word "truncated" :)

You don't seem to understand. By truncated, we mean they've removed an entire verse from the song. IMO, the verse that got the axe was the best one :? I'm sure there's some logic behind it... but its nearly ruined Greystreet for me. Lots of fans feel the same way.

They've cut about a minute off the total time for the song. The third verse has been completely cut out. The 2nd chorus (...and though its red blood bleeding from her now...) takes the place of the 1st chorus and 3rd chorus takes the place of the 2nd chorus, elliminating a third chorus.

dmbalmanac.com calls it the "truncated" version. Otherwise I would never have known the word. :D

Grey street has the same riff going throughout the whole song. I can't even listen to it anymore. I don't blame dave for wanting to shorten it - 5 minutes of the duh, duh duh duh is a little much, and 4 minutes is slightly more managable.
