I just read through this entire thread from top to bottom (great way to spend my afternoon), and to me it seemed that you continually ignored the sage advice of at least 3 guitarists (who have far more experience than you, which I'm sure you know). *shrug*praisedave wrote:now mike, can you honestly say after reading this thread over again, which i have just done, that you did everything you could to help me and i ignored you?

mike, mbgreen, and who else are you speaking of?bbatsell wrote:I just read through this entire thread from top to bottom (great way to spend my afternoon), and to me it seemed that you continually ignored the sage advice of at least 3 guitarists (who have far more experience than you, which I'm sure you know). *shrug*praisedave wrote:now mike, can you honestly say after reading this thread over again, which i have just done, that you did everything you could to help me and i ignored you?

i dont believe that i ignored their advice because the did not really give me any advice. they told me... and i quote:
Mwr: You're in over your head on this one. You gotta learn how to crawl before you can leap tall buildings. Trying to learn this without a good foundation will result in frustration and bad technique.
Mbgreen: I'm gonna give the same advice as MWR...you need to walk first man. It's great that you're trying to better yourself, but this isn't the song to do it. When you can play something like Classical Gas perfectly, without any hangups then you might begin to start thinking about this song. Smile There's a lot out there in between where you're at (I've listened to a cover or two) and Justin King. Work up to it.
mbgreen: You're trying to read War and Peace without being able to read Go Dog Go first.
mbgreen: That song is light years easier than anything Justin King does, but I think it'll show Andy that he's not where he needs to be.
mbgreen: I still think you don't have the slightest clue as to how to go about this
Mwr: I still think you should start easier or you're gonna hurt yourself.
Mwr: you don't even know the basics of fingerpicking. I know for a fact you're not going to listen to me so I'm not going to bother. Have fun jumping into the deep and drowning. (on the first page btw)
Silverdmb: Don't take this the wrong way, you aren't good enough. Learn to play in the style before stepping into something like Phunkdified. Your skills consist of (at least the way I see it) Dave Matthews and Dave Matthews. Dave might be one hell of a musician, but being able to play Dave's aggressive, percussive, rythm guitar does not inherently qualify you to play Justin King, or "slap/pop", or whatever the hell you care to call it. Here's how I'll help you: stop trying. Learn fingerpicking. You have to know how to fingerpick to "slap/pop." To go from flatpicking The Stone to Justin King, or anything even close to the sort, ain't going to happen. Thank you, have a nice day, learn the basics first.
could you call all this advice? yeah, you could. but the point was i asked for technical help on the skills involved with playing the song and nobody helped me with that, they all assumed that i wasnt good enough, which from the things i had posted at that point isnt necessarily an unfair assumption, but i did not ask them to comment on whether or not i had the skill, i just asked for help. reading it over, 2 people helped me.

i did not ask which kinds of techniques/songs would lay a good base for what i was looking to learn. i only asked for advice on the aforementioned techniques, as i said before. here, a simplified example: if you were a newb and asked me how to get a full sound from a barre chord (not much to it i know, but play alongbbatsell wrote:Giving you alternative songs and techniques to learn so that you can eventually build up to the more difficult technique that you expect to be able to learn without a proper foundation is most certainly advice. It's just not what you wanted to hear.

Have you not realized that everybody here is telling you the same thing? People offered you solid advice, and you ignored it. Did you not consider the possibility that maybe you are wrong, and everybody else may be right on this? Bottom line is this: you need to start at the beginning an learn the fundamentals before trying a song that is over you head. You may be able to learn phunkdafied, but as others have said, that is far from being a truly skilled guitarist. Stop trying to be a victim here and consider taking other, far more skilled guitarists advice on this one. Who knows, maybe it'll make you a better player. Or you can keep spending weeks trying to learn one song, play it for all your friends, then when that song ends you'll have nothing to impress them with for another few weeks. Whatever you do, stop bitching about people not giving you advice. Many people on here have been more than patient with you and you continute to complain about it.
