Best of Whats Around

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Best of Whats Around

So I finally saddled up to learn this one. It had been one of those songs that I had kept putting off learning for whatever reason. I'm not even a huge fan of the song. But now I must say, "DAMN, THIS SONG IS FUN TO PLAY!" Such a good little groove. I think I like playing the verse more than tripping billies even. So if you havent tried this one, you should.

Just had to share that at 1am pacific time.

Man, I would be the world's biggest pimp if that were true. As it stands, my only girlfriend's name is Rosy.

TOTALLY agree. I'm in the same boat as you. Not a huge fan of the song initially, but now I love it! Ranks right up there with the Billies verse. Here's my verse (still working on it...):

http://alpinezone.com/mp3s/bowa_verse.mp3

I still struggle with sliding up to this chord cleanly:

Code: Select all

e:--------
B:--------
G:--------
D:---7----
A:---9----
E:--/10---
The pinky has a mind of its own sometimes...

I just play that chord with my ring finger cuz my pinky cant handle the slide. This song is one of the first Dave songs I learned all the way through, I love it, I play it almost everytime I pick the guitar up.

you can simplify that part by just sliding to the D chord after F. The same sounding chord, just a smaller slide.

Code: Select all

E:1---/5
B:1---/3
G:2---/x
D:3---/4
A:3---/5
E:1------

damn, that slide is hard for me even using my ring finger, it has the tendincy to slide right off the fretboard!

At first i didn't think Best of whats around would be a fun song to learn, but then my girlfriend was like "I LOVE THAT SONG!!! You have to learn it!" I started fooling around with it one night, and now im hooked on the rhythm of it.

Speaking of rhythm and crap, why doesn't dave do more songs like BOWA, LIOG, and Tripping billies any more? (the ones where he uses slides, notes and chords to make a kickass chorus)

Total crowd pleaser I bet too. I'm guessing that many Dave fans would sing right along with "hey la" part! Haven;t played it out for anyone yet though...
