Bit Torrent

I might be a moron.. but what is a bit torrent? I saw a download for show off sharingthegroove and it said bit torrent. I searched around and i couldn't find anything about them. Could someone please fill me in?

bit torrent is a program that pretty much downloads a show for you. On sharingthegroove, they have a post or something that explains everything for you, but i cant remember where it is. Anyway a torrent file is one that you can click on and it will begin to download that show for you, but u have to have the program installed first.

Typically they are shn files, but if I'm not mistaken, any type of file can be transferred by bit torrent. I know they also have videos at sharingthegroove.com
