you are my new hero dmbfan - thats exactly my point - everyone here is so "down" on lower end martins and get obsessed because its just the name - i played a bunch of guitars this summer, mostly this same type but different companies, and yeah this one does cost more than others, but for the price, this once has the best sound overall, now i have the money to freely spend, and i'm going toDMBFan63 wrote:probably 100-200 less, but that's not really the point..I didn't buy my dx-1 because it was a martin, I bought it because I loved the sound. I know there may be better guitars out there for that money, but if he enjoys the tone and sound of the guitar, what reason should he have not to buy it?
filmdude theres obviously better guitars out there, and i know it has the HPL composite back and sides, but that doesn't mean i'm gonna go blow a few thou on a new guitar because you think so- its gonna be mine, not yours, so you don't have to play it, so don't worry about it
i appreciate everyones comments, whether they disagreed or agreed

Again, I have this guitar and have used it to play for hundreds of people. I've gotten compliments on the warmth of the sound coming through the PA, as well as the looks of the guitar, solid wood or not. I have two solid woods, and this guitar can definitely compete soundwise and in the way of playability/action.DMBFan63 wrote: YOUR oppinion..it's not like he's playing for hundreds of people..it will work fine if he likes it
I agree not to buy a guitar because of the brand name, and I would have never bought this guitar if I didn't like the sound. And that is exactly where DJR07 stands as well I believe.
BTW, one of the guitar mags out right now, I believe Guitar World Acoustic, lists the DCX1E as one of the top 10 electric acoustics.

my thing with all this is that if you are happy with a guitar, be it solid wood or laminate or aluminum or whatever its made of, thats goos for you. im hapy that you've found a guitar you like. however, if you post that you are buying that guitar you must be prepared to be critiqued and told that there are better guitars out there. if you're not, then dont post it

yeah i mean im happy youve found a guitar in your range you like, im having a hard time doing that, i find the one thats easy to play sounds like shit, and the ones that sound good, feel akward to play, so ive settled on a chet. bassically so ill let that be my stage guitar, and allow it to be a fallback, for when i build my acoustic next summer if somethin goes wrong.

i understand that, but my real question wasn't even about the guitar - i undertand where everyone here is coming from, and i understand there are better guitars than what i'm about to purchase - and as i said before, i appreciate all comments, so i don't really mind being second-guessed, i just know what i want and why i want it, thats allpraisedave wrote:my thing with all this is that if you are happy with a guitar, be it solid wood or laminate or aluminum or whatever its made of, thats goos for you. im hapy that you've found a guitar you like. however, if you post that you are buying that guitar you must be prepared to be critiqued and told that there are better guitars out there. if you're not, then dont post it

thought id let you know that i own that martin your looking at and i love it. i bought it last year at the guitar center in the cities. i played many other brands that day and higher end martins and found that in my price range and MY OPINION, that that was one of the better sounding ones i played that day. i still think i got lucky on getting such good sound out of it and tone and that a martin that cheap and with fake wood should not sound that good. make sure you play it first though. cause im pretty sure there are some bad dcx1e's out there. i gig quite a bit with it too and it works like a charm for me. but i have it and am very content with it. the only bad thing i ahve found with it is that the humidity changes can be a bitch on that guitar. or for me anyways. good luck

sometimes the other better purchases are not available, and its fine to settle for the best at the momment. of course you want the best value. and of course every store has different sales that make your guitar worth its price, but at the end of the day, you will remember the tone of the guitar and not the price you paid.

i agree with just about everything you said, i'm sure there are some bad DCX1E's out there too, but i'm sure every model on the line has its bad one here and there - ordered mine today - hopefully coming friday!freshead16 wrote:thought id let you know that i own that martin your looking at and i love it. i bought it last year at the guitar center in the cities. i played many other brands that day and higher end martins and found that in my price range and MY OPINION, that that was one of the better sounding ones i played that day. i still think i got lucky on getting such good sound out of it and tone and that a martin that cheap and with fake wood should not sound that good. make sure you play it first though. cause im pretty sure there are some bad dcx1e's out there. i gig quite a bit with it too and it works like a charm for me. but i have it and am very content with it. the only bad thing i ahve found with it is that the humidity changes can be a bitch on that guitar. or for me anyways. good luck

IF you like the martin sound, a lot of inexpensive martins sound great. I agree with whoever it was that was saying that there are a lot of guitars that are comparable to low end Taylors. But when you hear a martin, you know it's a martin, regardless of cost.
DmbFanJason has a Taylor 414 and a Martin DX1. The Taylor collects dust. We both think the DX1 sounds way better. (Every recording he used to make was on the DX1, if you guys were around for that.)

yeah i agree, the low end taylors (soundwise) don't compare to low end martins, the "martin sound" is too unique - even though the DCX1E only has a solid wood top and the rest composite, just sounds bettermbgreen wrote:IF you like the martin sound, a lot of inexpensive martins sound great.
