dont fret a note, place your finger on the string, pluck, and remove finger quickly

I pretty much only use natural harmonics which are located directly above the fifth, seventh, and twelfth frets. They usually are loudest at the 12th fret. The trick is to lightly rest your finger on any string directly above one of these frets and let go immediately after you pick it.
There are other ways of playing harmonics but this is where you should start.

Yeah there are a few more. I know 9 is too. It's pretty hard to get volume though with an acoustic.

I'm still kind of theory-ignorant, but I'd like to learn more.....anyone care to explain what exactly a harmonic is? A link to a site that explains would be great.

theres also a natural harmonic PASSED the fret board entirely... on my telecaster its conveniently above the pickup closest to the neck. on my imitation-ovation.. its like... maybe an inch or two passed the fretboard. If you already know how to do harmonics, then try it out. I BELIEVE this mysterious harmonic is equal to the one on the seventh fret.

Okay, just making sure..Natural harmonics are pretty easy to get a sound from..when you're trying frets that don't have natural harmonics, that's when it's hard

Do you maybe mean PAST the fretboard? And there are a few harmonics over the sound hole that you can hit on most acoustic guitars, Keller Williams hits them on a couple of his songs.

whats that song of his where the end of the verse he hits like 8 barre harmonics in a row and he's all over the place?

He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.
