I agree talent and creativity are two different things. I know anything that can alter the way your brain fires off information can have an impact on thought process. I think most people that are creative in this nature from music to television either have a screw lose or they happen to have been high at the time. Drugs, or a more proper term for this topic "mind altering substances" have always played a part in the evolution of society from inventions to abstract thought. I’m not condoning the use, but items that aren’t synthetic and are more natural have been used for centuries. Shit Homer the Greek poet talked about opium use in “The Odyssey”!

Haha, perfect. To the people that love Ludacris, this seems like the hardcore thing to do and earns him credibility. To the people that dislike his live performances, it's a perfect excuse for sucking horribly. What a convenience, although I think it'd be damn near impossible to drink a handle of JD and walk... or live to tell about it.Don_Linthorne wrote:As for alcohol I know Ludacris drinks a 40 of JD before he goes on stage...

I just came up with a pretty cool fingerpicking tune while I was ripped.jrbleiguy wrote:whatever brings out emotion to its fullest, let it be a substance. if that's what it takes to open up your mind, so be it. personally, smoking definitely puts me in "the zone" at the moment, but i'd be damned if i remember a single line or lick, minus the aid of ink.

I barely consider Ludacris a musician.Don_Linthorne wrote:First off when I'm drunk there is no point in me playing guitar haha it's terrible. BLAH BLING BANG you get the idea. Second of all I've never tried playing guitar while High me and my buddy are considering jamming while high. I juts think we would be more into the music along with a little paranoia hahaha
As for the Preformers Yeah the drugs are probably from personal experiences thats my guess... As for alcohol I know Ludacris drinks a 40 of JD before he goes on stage...

I think drug brings you in a different mood. and i think mood is important when you play guitar. You dont need drugs to give you different moods. This is just me.

An interesting thing I notice is when I get really drunk, I feel no pain, particularly in my fingers if I am really stretching and trying weird soloing shit. In fact the first time I ever played Satellite correctly and the riff in Bouncing Around the Room correctly was when I was getting trashed. You just don't have any inhibitions in terms of the writing process, so anything you think is accepted. I've done this a time or two, recording myself shit-faced and hearing it later. My voice sounds like shit but my guitar sounds all unorthodox and trippy and cool.

Gotta top an old thread here.
I think drugs have done great things for music, and art in general. I mean, do you think Pink Floyd would have been able to make any of those trippy masterpieces without mushrooms and LSD? Or Hendrix? What about The Beatles? The Doors? Janis Joplin? The Grateful Dead? Phish? All these bands/artists owe much of their creativity to drugs and the experiences they've had while doing drugs. Do you think Sublime would have amounted to anything without Bradley Nowell's Heroine addiction or Nirvana without Kurt Cobain's? I seriously doubt it.
Could you imagine a world with no drugs? No Darkside of the Moon; no Abbey Road, or White Album; no Purple Haze or All Along The Watchtower. Hell, no Dave Matthews Band, at least not as we know it.
Do you know what kind of music comes from drug free artists? Mmm Bop. Quit Playin' Games With My Heart. The Carpenters and The Partridge Family. All the Hilary Duffs and Britney Spearses, and all the bullshit the infects the airwaves.
I'm not saying that you need to be and acid-head or junkie to create great music. But it seems like it might help.

I'd be very suprised if any of them were drug users today.

even if they did, their music is so tight that it would be hard to tell.

drugs&im new
hey..im new to this but this forum popped out at me. I agree with what looks like the majority of people here. Drugs and alcohol do have a great impact on you. i only smoke and drink. if you do drugs or drink it doesnt define the person you are ..when you get high, your mind does open up and creative juices flow, its unfair to say that if you need drugs and alcohol you probably arnt good anyways, get high, experience it before you knock it, write down what you feel and what your thinking. the next morning you'll either piss your pants laughing or think your pretty fucking wise..great musicians and artist use drugs..its just the way it is..the outcome is usually amazing.
