Problem!!!

Post by kcw »

Ok everytime I play my guitar the D string breaks.

I just changed all of my strings yesterday and my D string broke again today. And the reason I changed all of my strings was because my D string broke and I figured that i might as well change them all. I've broken that string maybe 8 times in the past two weeks and only like 2 of the strings.

Anyone know how to fix the problem?

probably a sharp edge on either the bridge or the nut, look for something like that, and then try filling it down a little bit

might want to wait for some more opinions on that though, thats just waht i've read here a few times when people complain of that.

To elaborate on captain's comments, the string usually breaks near the bridge, or the nut depending on where the sharp edge is. The next time a string breaks, pay attention to what you were doing (i.e. what kind of style/song you were playing), and where the break was.

Try taking a small flathead screwdriving, insert it into the string hole and scrape the sides of the hole down a bit..there could be some chips of would giving unneeded friction on the string

is it breaking all the way through or just the coil?
if its just the coil its almost definetly some sharp someting that has protruded in the way of the string at either the saddle or nut, but if its breaking all the way through there are other possibilities...
acoustic or electric?

Its just the coil. Its an acoustic and I changed the saddle so after a couple days i'll be able to see if its fixed or not. Thanks.
