some people here give simple music such a negative connotation
that's like saying a haiku isn't worthwhile poetry and i think it's an incredibly narrow-minded perspective
there is a difference between simplicity and genericism though matty, you have to admit that. there is nothing wrong with simple music if the composition is unique and interesting.
you can make an incredibly unique composition with very simple music. for example: herbie hancock's "chameleon is a song based upon a simple two chord structure, but you can remain interested for the entire fifteen minutes of the song because of the melody and improvisation.
you can write a song using G F and C and still be unique if you make a good composition. hell, probably 50% of Trey Anastasio's original music is some variation of G F C (thats not to say all of them are actually interesting though )

i wasn't standing up for the mp3 posted in this thread
but this is the first time any difference has been distinguished, let's make sure it's clear that there is a difference

alrighty then:
simplicity: good
genericism: not so good
i don't even mean to say that...i guess i mean to say, simplicity is not a bad thing...not necessarily good because obviously it can be generic like you say, but it's just not bad either
