how to name chords

theyre uncomfortable for me to play but im sure ill get used to it. anyway, i believe that its something like -98999... so would i name it by the bass note? (in this case an F#).... all help is appreciated :D


EDIT i just looked up some 9 chords and realized i was wrong... anyway i dont know what those are called... need help anyway.

EDIT 2: ok i just looked up another 9 chord.... looks like it is that type of chord and its named by the bass note.... :D

mix that in with some 13th chords and you will have my favorite blues jam

man 12 bar blues was one of the first things i learned how to play.
if i were giving advice to someone on how to fly.....

id probably say throw yourself at the ground..and miss.

12 bar blues is something that any jazz musician can play, basically it is a real basic chord progression I-I-I-I-IV-IV-I-I-V-IV-I-I

we played it every day for about 15 minutes in my high school jazz band in a different key every day...... heard some awesome improv during those days.

While it is easy to switch keys on guitar, other intstruments make it a lot harder because it isn't just a different position, you have to know what notes are sharp and flat in that key.

I usually comp it with a 13th chord for the I and 9ths for the IV and V but you get bored and switch it up a little bit or put some chromatic stuff in there.


p.s. play each one for a measure/bar (4 times) and then switch to the next chord.

my roommate and i play 12 bar but i always play rhythm because i don't solo. :P
