Warehouse....Impossible !

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Warehouse....Impossible !

Post by DSeibel »

Guys

I'm...I guess a beginer/intermediate guitarist. I have found this website to be very valuable to me, so firstly I would like to thank the people involved. So far I have somewhat learned

Crash
Granny
Gray Street
So Much to say

And I am working on alot more.....one however that seems impossible to me is Warehouse......I really like the stop time version. But I cannot seem to get it to sound right at all. It just sounds like dead strings to me. Can you offer any tips on how to make this one easier.

Thanks

Dave

It's all in the strumming. Concentrate on strumming the 7/E 9/A 11/D strings.

It comes with practice.

Do you play the open strings or just the fretted and deadened strings?

E--------------------------
B-x--x----x--x--x--x-x-x---
G-x--x----x--x--x--7-x-x---
D-x--x----x--x--11---9-x---
A-x--9----x--9---------10--
E-7-------7----------------

For example, do you play the high E and low E when strumming the second chord?

To add to what's not in my post. I have been working on it for a while and just starting to fine tune it. It's definitely not an exact science, as Dave plays it many different ways, very seldomly being played the same exact way.

The way I play it is that I make sure I hit each note and then mute every string behind it, sometimes I do hit the top strings though because my picking isnt perfect. Its a tough song, do what sounds best to you. Its really hard to play it exactly like Dave because he is just so accurate with the pick.

I dont think Dave is very accurate w/ the pick (i mean he is less than other guitarists)...to avoid that problem, he mutes the top strings too (at least this is what i could see...)

He uses his thumb to mute low E on the way back up (7-9-10) if that helps... I have a video of him playing it solo in 93 if anyone wants it ask me on AIM KukiniMarq...

He also plays LIOG, Typical Sit, Two Step, and Nancies...

How do I get this video? I'm unfamiliar with the AIM thing you mentioned.

The muting basically makes this song otherwise it would be pretty boring. The strumming coupled with the muting is key here, but to learn the song try to concentrate on the only the 7, 9, 11, etc. and if your pick strikes the muted strings that's okay, this will help with the strumming.

Yah, surprisingly... it'll just come to you. I've played it awfully many times before I found the correct way to play it. Sadly, though, it will not sound the same as Dave unless you're amped with a feedback buster. Won't get the rat-at-tat-tat sound from the muted strings as much as Dave does.

But, umm, yah just keep fooling with it and it will bust right out in no time.
