anyone have any tips for doing this without making a frickin mess?

i always end up with oil all over brand new strings... it's not like i put a lot on either, the wood just stays greasy for a while. :roll:

put it on and wipe it off. couldn't be simpler.

if it doesn't soak in then you may be well oiled enough and probably only need to oil 1/2 as much as you do. i oil the fret board only every 2 to 6 months depending on whther it looks dry.

This is lemon oil, we're talking about, right? Why don't you do this when you're changing strings?

i do do it when i am changing strings, and i do wipe it off! it just leaves this oil film that gets on my hands and on the strings when i play... :evil:
