So Much To Say Question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

So Much To Say Question

Post by DSeibel »

I just kinda got the intro to so much to say.....when you do the E slide, then the 555, then you go into the 4/6 slide I hear something on the song that I'm not hearing when I play it. Maybe its just me....is there any thing tips or maybe something the tab doesn't quite show?

Its just the rythm of the song. There's a couple of muted strums in there I believe. At least that's my take, the way I've learned to play better is to not try so hard....

I actually here it on the video here on this site mostly, but I guess I notice it in the studio version also.....I'll check out central park, I believe there are a couple of close ups I can maybe find something on....muted strings make sense..I'll try that tommorow, my roomates are asleep and I'll wake em..I gotta get my own place man.

I have the central park concert, and I watched it over and over learning how to play that song. There are some muted strums in there, and he doesnt do them all the time, but it really is the funk rythm that Dave plays it with. Like everyone else says you have to sorta feel it....

I always hit strings e,b,g, and maybe d with an upstroke after the 3/5 all just open strings. Sounds perfect to me.

maybe i know what you are talking about?

after the 4/6 slide, Dave sometimes hits (4th string/7fret);or(3rd string 6fret); or both (4th string/7th fret and 3rd string/6fret at the same time)...try that, I always do a combo of all three whenever I play it.

It's this. There's a slight change the second time you play the verse. You let those two notes ring out and dont play the open E.

Code: Select all

E:------5-----------------
B:------5-----------------
G:------5---4\6-----------
D:---------------7--------
A:------------------------
E:-3\5--------------0-8\--
   (2) 4 (1) 2 3

E:------5-----------------
B:------5-----------------
G:------5---4\6--6~~------
D:---------------7~~------
A:------------------------
E:-3\5---------------8\---
   (2) 4 (1) 2 3

Code: Select all

G:----- 0-5---4\6-----------
D:---------------7--------

Does anyone hit these with an upstroke before the 5's?

this is how i play it, it sounds good. i just can't hear the open e string before the 8 so that's why i don't play it.
