I want to be Perfect!

Post by saiyasam »

Okay, the last time we tried to have a discussion on this topic, we got sidetracked a bit, so I'm starting a new one.

I keep seeing ad's in guitar magazines that say you can learn perfect pitch.

3 Questions:
Is this for real?

And if so, should I try it? I'm tempted because I want to be a better guitar player. Will it really make you better?

Also, can having perfect pitch in any way be a burden? How can being able to know what note is being played out of the blue not be awesome?

Thanks for your input everyone!

a)that's obviously a waste of money
b)you can't learn perfect pitch your born with it
c)let go of this whole perfect pitch thing, it's overrated. you can be an amazing musician without it.

I believe all these questions WERE answered the last time but if you just felt like having everyone repeat themselves that's ok too.

itsa waste of money and time. you cant learn perfect pitch that way... learn what the notes sound like on guitar strings open, then move on from there. then when youve been playing longer youll get better, and maybe someday be perfect...

buying this will fuck you over.

Nah, you can't attain perfect pitch. You're born with it. That program will provide you with acceptional relative pitch if you stick with it, but nothing more. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Dave Matthews, etc, didn't have perfect pitch, so it's ok if you don't.

The perfect pitch guy is funny looking. I love his white teethy smile.

The best part is in acoustic magazines he's dressed like a folkie with a plaid shirt, etc.

In older guitar magazines from the 80's it's still the same guy but he's got long curly brown hair and dressed like an 80's hair metal rocker.

This guy's been in business for a while, whether is system works I cannot say. I'm of the school that you either got it or you don't, training helps but bottom line is you can sing in pitch or you can't.

Image looking scarier

This guy's got to be 60 years old by now.

my mom has perfect pitch and it is pretty crazy, she plays the violin and she can listen to something, then pick up her violin and play it. The only reason I would really want it is for those notes you just can't quite figure out and tuning. As long as you can find the first note it is easy to get the others with relative pitch. Just memorize certain songs that have certain relative pitches then it is easy to compare.

Also, sometimes my mom hates it because when stuff is out of tune it sounds really bad to her, even if it isn't even supposed to be musical, like a car chime or a car horn and stuff like that.
