My cousin did that, actually. He flew up to Houston for the DMB show, stayed at the 4 Seasons (he's rich as a motherfucker). He just checked in, he's taking his bags up to his room and waiting for an elevator. Door opens, and it's the band (they were staying in the same hotel). They talked for a couple minutes about the show and the band and stuff and then they went their separate ways. Later that night, cousin goes down to the hotel bar, and the band is sitting at the bar. Dave recognizes him from earler and waves him over and they toss a few back together.

My buddy from work was at a bar in Seattle and Dave walks in right. Well this bar has live bands that play and Dave goes to the manager and is like:

"Hey, are there any slots left? I mean I brought my guitar, might as well play it."

Well, they cancled the previouse band and Dave went on state and busted out a few songs. I'm pretty sure he did Billies, LIOG, Two Step, and a few others.

Man, I'd pissed my pants out of excitement....

not really fair to the band that got canned, if i were them i might be kinda pissed if i wasnt a dave fan

it might be like if i had a gig somewhere and Macy Grey walked in and took my spot.

but that's still a pretty cool story

Yeah, I guess Dave didn't want to boot the other band, he was just looking for an open slot.

I agree though, I'd be pissed if my gig got shit-canned too.

No one ever knows what to ask him when they meet him, so I've always had 2 questions in my head:
1. What is he saying at the beginning of The Last Stop whenever they play it live?
2. (to finally end the debate) What are the last few lines he says at the end of All Along The Watchtower?
