Hello All... My first post here, but when I saw this topic I had to chime in. "So Damn Lucky" is one of the easiest songs on the planet.
You guys are reading too much into it. There is no need to bar the entire 9th fret. And if you do bar the entire fret you have to be careful not to play all the notes you barred, because the bottom 2 strings on the 9th fret don't work in the chord... Index finger on the 9th fret, only on strings A,D,G (fleshy part between your first and second knuckle of index muting the B & E strings) Then your ring finger and pinky are hammering the 11th (only on the first of the series do you need to hammer) You can now do a full strum and your only hearing the open E along with the ADG that you fret. Then simply drop it down and play the open A while index finger frets D & G string on the 9th and only your ring finger does the hammer at the 11th fret. But don't strumm the open E.
side note: the fleshy part of your finger that is muting the B&E strings does not have to do so over the 9th fret... drop it back a little... pivot your hand so that your pinky can join in the fun too. when I play it my index finger rests at about a 45degree angle to the fret board
Also, I see people saying it's just like Jimi Thing, but really the only similarity is the fact that they are the same notes. It is a completely different strum pattern, and if anyone uses their pinky at all on Jimi Thing, I'd like to see it... (except on the bridge moving from the Em and pinky the G# on the E string)
