Slide Help

Post by 1eyed_jack »

hey everyone, when i play with my friends we often play a country sounding song that just goes G-C-D-C, and I thought it might sound cool if i could mess around with a slide and give it a cool twangy sound. problem is, i dont know how to use a slide. i do have a glass one so ive got that part down. if anyone can give me any advice on scales i can play or anything like that it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

slide on G and use a lot of vibrato (rub the slide back and forward quickly) Just improvise, it'll sound cool if you just go with what feels good.

hi,

don't forget to dampen the strings behind the slide (using your index and middle finger....also, don't slide players usually tune their guitars to G. someone explained the reason to me before but i can't quite remember it exactly. it has something to do with the scale....that it becomes mirrored and you can play up along the neck easier or that it's a more efficient way to play the scale?

people tune to all kinds of things when playing with a slide...but the best slide players can do it all

probably use an open tuning if you're using a slide by yourself and stick to standard while just using it to solo/play lead
B+P by offer only...thank you
