Busted Stuff Tuning....REVEALED!!!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Busted Stuff Tuning....REVEALED!!!

Post by jkanter »

I would like to start this post by saying that Busted Stuff is NOT in standard tuning. If ANYONE has checked out the Busted Stuff video that Sinclair has released...or the 8/31/00 video....you will 100% see that Dave does not play it in standard tuning.

Now saying that, I would like to say that the way Dave plays it is NOT the best way to play it. I do not know why he plays it in this wierd tuning but he does. I would not expect anyone to play the song like this because there is no use tuning your guitar differently. I am just providing tabs as to the way Dave plays them.

The Busted Stuff Tuning:

Code: Select all

e:-
B:-
E:-
B:-
G:-
E:-
Yes...it is wierd, but here is my explanation for it all. The following is the tab of the verse that everyone has:

Code: Select all

e:------------------------------------------------------
B:------------------------------------------------------
G:-0----0--------0----0--------0----0-------------------
D:-0h2--0---5----0h2--0---4----0h2--0---2--4--4--2---5--
A:-3----3---5----3----3---5----3----3---3--5--5--3---5--
E:----------3-------------5-------------5--2--5--5---3--
Here is the way Dave plays the verse....Exactly:

Code: Select all

e:----------------------------------------------------------
B:----------------------------------------------------------
E:-3----3---3---3----3---2---3----3-------2---2-------2--2--
B:-3h5--3---3---3h5--3---3---3h5--3---5---3---3---5---2--2--
G:-5----5---0---5----5---2---5----5---5---x---2---5---0--0--
E:------------------------------------5---2-------5---------
    (4) (4) (4) 3 3
Here is my explanation for how I figured out the tuning. For all the hammer ons, Dave plays:

Code: Select all

3
3h5
5

and standard is:
0
0h2
3
This means that the A string is tuned DOWN 2 half steps, the D string is tuned DOWN 3 half steps, and the G string is tuned DOWN 3 also. Now to prove this, we go to the other chords.

Code: Select all

x
5
5
3
is really:
3
3
0
x
If we re-tune the 3's UP 3 half steps(as I said), and the zero UP 2 half steps..it would make it:
0
0
-2
x
Then we move the notes up 5 half steps and a string up(same note)...we end up with
x
5
5
3
I would rather not get into all the other chords but each and every chord works out EXACTLY the same way. Remember that the Low E isn't tuned differently so anythig on my tab that is on the low E stays there. Anyway.....I hope that helps clear up the confusion on the Busted Stuff tuning. Post all comments here....ENJOY!!!!
