Similarities Between Cigarette Lit and Joy Ride

Post by GuitarGuy305 »

The part in Cigarette Lit that goes:

The rain falls down, I'm not alone
Covers all of us, in silver light
In silver light, and all, I beg you, stay with me
Let it rain all night

And the part in Joy Ride that goes:

Money is clean, if we scrub it good
Guns and gasoline, we could save the world
Nothing is obsene if we just close our eyes.
Boys and girls welcome to this joy ride.

Sound strikingly similar.

I think it's a distinct possibility that Cigarette Lit was not only shelved on Some Devil, but that this part of the song was reincarnated in Joy Ride.

He's written a lot of songs...it doesn't take long before they start having similarities

Those lyrics don't seem too alike, unless I'm missing something.

I'm sorry if I wasn't to clear on this. If you listen to both songs, those parts are musically similar.

Someone needs to compare these two songs the same way these two Nickelback songs were compared...

I've been coming to this site for a while for tabs an info on the band. I just decided to start posting here recently because the people seemed pretty cool, but from the warm reception I've received so far, I can see you're a pretty tight knit group. Do you welcome all newcomers this way?

If you read my original post, I say they sound strikingly similar. This has nothing to do with the lyrics. I'm speaking from a musical standpoint. They are in different keys, but the chord progression is the same. All I'm saying is that it is possible that Dave took that part of Cigarette Lit and made it the chorus to Joy Ride, whether he did it intentionally or not. It's the same thing as how the outro to Cigarette Lit is Hold Me Down.

The more I listen to it, the more I think it may just be coincidence. It's not as blatant as the Hold Me Down or Little Thing in Cigarette Lit.
