Similarities between Joy Ride and Rapunzel

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Similarities between Joy Ride and Rapunzel

Post by comensee41 »

Does anyone else see this? The starting riffs are very similar, and they both have parts that go from a 4/4 time sig. to a 3/4 and back again...im not saying that i dont like both songs, but...well lets just put it this way...if rapunzel was defunct, id say that Joy Ride is to Rapunzel as Everyday is to #36...thoughts?

its actually 12/8. you can count it 3/4 if you like but it would be way too complicated. Easier just to count all the way through the repeat.

I wouldn't say JR and Rapunzel are as close as Everyday and #36. Everday and #36 are essentially the same song...

*yeah, they all sound the same! I mean, like...what's up with that violin and saxaphone and that crazy black guy? Like, I totally don't get it! All their songs totally sound the same! Crazy bluegrass music! Teehee!*

Eh, I've had a coupld people say that sort of thing to me. I know what you're saying though Snyder. Dave mentioned in a recent interview (I think Guitarworld Acoustic) that he was running out of ideas on the guitar.

people keep saying it and i just don't agree i guess, 36 and everyday have almost the exact same notes throughout, joyride and rapunzel are only really close in rhythm only, and even then they differ
just my opinion

I agree, JR and rapunzel are similar in rhythm, but if you were to compare joy ride to another song as far an similarity in notes, chords, whatever . . . it would be the chorus of JR and the verse of so damn lucky. No big deal thought. . .you find that in many songs. Take grey street, and compare it to parts of billies, or granny, or even LIOG, many similarities in chords. Maybe a different order, but if you just looked at those parts you can't really say there is a broad range of creativity. I guess what i'm saying is dave has a distinct style, and though it is obvious in many songs, each song becomes its own. Maybe if he played rapunzel and JR back to back i'd be like wtf.
