ok i just got a mandolin and the strings are in bad shape...how do i change the strings? do i have to unscrew the metal thing covering the strings? he said dont take them all off at once because the bridge will move. please help.

hope you still care about this post . . . thought I'd reply since no one else has:
i borrowed a mandolin once and i think yes, you have to remove the metal piece to remove the strings from the nut at the bottom. and yeah, i think you shouldn't change them all at once. but I think this will be more helpful: http://www.elixirstrings.com/products/h ... dolin.html
haha yeah...two months late...i figured it out eventually....but i kinda lost interest in mandolin so now it just sits in my house
