New to Recording, Help Me Out!

Hey this guitar competition stuff sounds really cool but I don't have the right kind of gear to record music myself... I was wondering if you guys knew of any devices that I could hook my guitar into to record into my computer? I know they exist but I forget what they're called, my friend had one in his old desktop. The thing is I have labtop so I would need an external one, perferable with a USB connection. Do they even make those?

they actually have audio programs that utilize your soundcard as an imput and some are relatively inexpensive. you might wanna go to you local music retailer and ask around. good luck
