ok it's mostly just pratice, like getting used to it. just try to mute with whatever fingers you can, fingers that are free and such. when you do this, you kinda wanna hit the actualy notes a bit more then the muted strings

Yeah, mutig is a very hard technique. I can only tell you to mutig very often and find some mutig videos. But don't worry, mutig becomes easier with practice. It also helps to mutig with others.

Haha. j/k. Just lift your fingers lightly and strum normally. You'll get it soon, it's natural.

Two Step muting should be easy, the finger that gets either the 8, or 10th fret should cover the D string

i think i kinda am. it really depends on the setup of the chord. like muting in that intro is kinda like your gonna make a note, but you take your finger lightly off it, so kinda like the A and D are pressured on the 8th fret, raise it a bit on the D. Muted D :P

i've found that dave's muting comes easily when you finger the chords correctly, speaking from a chord muting sense. dave doesn't palm mute a whole lot, most of it comes from the fretting hand.

Yeppers! Check out some of the videos if you haven't already. They'll give you a good idea about how Dave's odd chord shapes naturally lend themselves to a lot of muting.
