Any harm in leaving a capo clamped after playing??

Post by Jonny123 »

I do this from time to time, just leave my capo on after playing some tunes. Does it effect the strings or guitar neck in any negative way?

Just curious... :?:

any use of a capo will wear down your frets quicker, and leaving it on for prolonged periods could only hurt it more

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

especially with kyser capos, the pressure is waaaay too strong. kyser capos will dig the strings further into the fretboard.

always take your capos off.

I use my good old third hand capo. Barely any stress, soft on strings, and it doesn't hurt the back of the neck because it's got a soft streching cloth that goes entirely around the neck.

Capos or any foreign rubber substance will eventually damage the fret broad and your head stock. I used to park it up on the head stock but eventuallly my trusty black Kyser capo which I've had for a couple of years will remove the gold foil label.

You'll also force your guitar out of tune by using a capo.

yeah, that's what martin says at least

btw, if you keep a capo on the frets aka storage style, then your guitar will go out of tune, mines loose so i don't notice any tuning issues short term

My old roommate used to always leave the capo on after he used it. Pissed me off I would have to go behind him and take it off all the time. but leaving it on is not a good thing!
