Want to ask about strings, maintenance, amps, mics, or comparisons of different guitars or any music equipment? This is for all threads related to music equipment.
i have this idea for my "metal fabrication & casting" class this coming semester of fabricating an acoustic out of aluminum. the neck would be the same as a normal guitar but the body would be a thin aluminum alloy. i have been reading about the acoustic properties of it and i think it would sound pretty interesting and hopefully have some nice sustain. if anyone knows more about acoustic properties i'd like to know if it's worth pursuing or if there is another metal or material that is unconventional that might have a weird sound.
i am hammering out some ideas for other experimental stringed instruments as well. this is just what i was maybe going to use for a starting point.
A bronze body w/ bronze strings would just be plain cool to look at. I know they make Fender Strat bodies out of aluminum...I've seen 'em on ebay. I dunno if they have a different sound or not?
Yeah, man, it's gonna have that blue-grassy sound of a resonator... or just plain pingy, lol Truthfully, though, I say go for it. Even if you dont like the sound of it, it'll be cool to look at and a sweet story to tell
