Post by creaghphish »

I've seen some people talking about how they don't like longer versions of songs but damnit thats a large part of what i love about dmb...jammin'...dmb's jamming is what brought me to start listening ot phish(RIP) and umphrey's mcgee and other jam bands...its an amazing part of music to me

for instance as a recent topic of discussion-seek up from the gorge '02...its not the same thing over and over its leroi jamming then boyd...thats def the best version of seek up i've ever heard

Personally I'd be happy if they did a 50 minute seekup jam. I like that shit...some people don't

usually(or at least for me) the people who dont like the long jams are people who dont play instruments. not to bash them or anything, but they seem to be more into the words, so when a jam comes up, they hit "Next" because its boring to them. its mostly musicians who like listening to jams because they understand the parts both prominent and not, and how fun it is.

now, not all jams are good to everyone, i dont like seek up for example, i just think its boring, but i love jams and i love jamming myself.

^yeah, im like that, if it goes to an interlude or a jam and i know how to play the song, i move my left fingeres around to get like the rythm of the jam... kinda weird.

I forget when, but I read about it in Step Into The Light. One time in 94 or 95, sometime them, they played a show that was with quite a few other groups, and I believe Blues Traveler was there. Cops came by, and told them to stop it. They agreed to let them play one last song. So the band gets up, gets a lot of the artists up on the stage. Then, Recently starts up. The song, they jammed it for over 30 minutes! The cops weren't happy ;) .

i love jamming, but seriously after a while, the same riff can get a bit tiring - i loved the 30 min #41 with the flecktones (4-20-02) but even when i watch that i just wanna push next

great to hear, but hard to keep interesting sometimes

i agree with DJR07... I was the one who started that thread about the Seek Up jam from the gorge.

First of all (I know that there was no bashing intended), i play the guitar. Second of all, i normally enjoy the jams DMB does on for instance LIOG, WWYS, #41 and so on, but i just think that a jam doesnt really fit on a semi-sad melancholic song like Seek Up is. (one could argue that #41 is that as well, but i just find it a bit more lively).

But jams are great, as long as you have a good base for them. Which brings me back to my point about the Seek Up at The Gorge: The base for a jam of that length just isnt there IMO.

Oh my God, another Danish DMB fan? that makes... ehmm.... a grand total of 7 fans.

Yeah they had time to start one more song before the curfew(sp?). They arrived late and the concert didnt get started on time because of traffic problems. The band felt bad and wanted to make sure the crowd got what they paid for so they pulled out that forever and a day jam to try and appease them.
If your friend is already dead, and being eaten by vultures, I think it's okay to feed some bits of your friend to one of the vultures, to teach him to do some tricks. But ONLY if you're serious about adopting the vulture.
