If you don't know music theory like the back of your hand, then spend time on that ... in the long run, I think it will pay more dividends.

I'd say focus on the bass so one day you can be almost as awesome as Vic Wooten (see Macht's sig).

(I say almost, because, no one can be as awesome as the Woot)

Learn the guitar, man. Always expand your musical horizons. Learn everything you can.

I'd advise sticking to riffs that focus on the lower portion of the guitar. It'll make it easier for you.

Dave's great for that type of thing.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

One of the most amazing things is that when Live! recorded Throwing Copper their guitarist and bassist switched ... and the band got better musically. How often does that happen?

If you can do both great but I don't think that one can be his best at both. If you are okay with being "decent" or "good" with both then go for it :)

Dispatch and Phish did this a lot back in the day.

somday i hope to have the credits on my CD read Vocals, Guitar, Drums, Bass, and Backup Vocals, for every person in the band. You'd have no idea who was playing what. and we might even bust out some 3 bass songs like these guys
