Care to see my Top 5 Guitarist list?

Unread post by IronMike778 » Wed Jul 21, 2004 7:07 am

Just looking to get some various opinions here. These are NOT who I think are the Top 5 guitarists, they are MY Top 5. So, please don't tell me I'm wrong, or "No way, so-and-so is better" or anything like that.......I'd just like to know who else-if anyone else- thinks like me.

in NO particular order (that would be way too hard):

1. Dave Matthews - It was "Ants" from Luther College that began my obsession back in 1999. Until then, I couldn't tell you anything about him or DMB. Luther College mesmerized me and my Dave 'sickness' began!
2. Eddie Van Halen - I was about 11 years old when my brother brought home Van Halen 1 and 2 on 8-track. From that point on VH became a way of life for me....my middle school and high school years were consumed by Van Halen!! They will always be my #1 band, regardless of what they do from here on out. And yes, I like the Sammy years every bit as much as the DLR years.
3. Brian Setzer - So talented and SO underrated. See this guy live and up close and you'll never question this pick.
4. Jimmy Page - Acoustic, Electric, whatever.....this guy's ability to write guitar gems is mind-blowing.
5. The Edge - Not the fastest or most glamorous, but I love his sound and style.

interesting list, especially setzer, who i agree with you, is underrated

my favorites no order:

1. regi wooten: so cool, fun to watch, and funky
2. jimi hendrix: can get annoying with so much freakish distortion, e.g. between parts of the Banner, but still amazing stuff
3. jimmy page: not just the solos, but the riffs of the songs, like black dog
4. eric clapton: "god" seems appropriate
5. dave matthews: catchy rhythm riffs, the way his hands flow with the guitar is soo amazing, and the fact that he loves just holdin the rhythm and letting the other guys shine just makes me like him more

2) Tim Reynolds - speed, man, speed.
3) The Edge; great, great style, love the constant strumming.
4) Damien Rice - basic, but stylish.
5) John Lennon - chords all over the fucking place.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

yah regi is victor's older brother. regi is the oldest of the five wooten brothers, rudy(sax), roy(drums and aka futureman), joseph(keyboard) being the other three. regi taught them all how to play their instruments, so basically he taught them all and knows all those instruments...this is why they call him Teacher.

Neither of these should count, because he didn't say Bass Guitar, he just said guitar. You can't compare a bassist to a guitar player because they're not similar to play.. other then they have strings..
