Just play all the guitars you possibly can that are in your price range until you find one you like

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.

I dunno about that price range but I can just tell you that you HAVE to go play them.

I played a Martin 000C-16GTE Premium today figuring it could compare to a Taylor 314ce. Not even close. Completely different sounds.

The only way to know that is to play it.

Here's another example. I played two different 714CEs ... On one the action was so high and the strings so thick that I played about 30 seconds and put it down ... Then I picked up another 714ce and played that for a good 5 mins. One sounded bright and the other one with the high action sounded like there was a wet sock over the soundhole.

You gotta play them. Which is why I won't buy an acoustic online. There's just no way to tell.
