Help needed for a DVD noob

So I just ordered a dell lap with an 8x DVD+RW/+R drive with dual layer capability. Yeah, I have no idea what that means. I've noticed the above discussion about +R vs. -R and the problems with compatibility. So can I only buy +R discs? Did I waste my money at all?

I'm looking to burn the shit out of STG torrents.

no, you didn't waste your money

from my experience, you can only write on to +R disks, but you can read from both -R and +R disks

you're all set

plus, you have a dual layer burner!!!!

you can back up all of your legally purchased dvds without losing any quality!!!! awesome!

let me know how the dual layer works out
