Granny timing question

I'm having problems figuring out the exact timing of when dave switches from:

E:--------------
B:-5h7--7----5--
G:-7----7----7--
D:-7----7----7--
A:--------------
E:--------------

to:

E:--------------
B:--3/5--5---3--
G:--2/4--4---2--
D:--------------
A:--------------
E:--------------

Sometimes it comes on the 4th downbeat and sometimes I'm pretty sure it comes just a hair (1/2 beat?) sooner. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and is there a pattern as to when it comes on the downbeat and when it comes before? Does it just alternate?

I think (can't remember off hand) he alternates during the verses...

yeah it def alternates, or at least on just about every version I've heard.

There's a lot of difference in there. It's different almost everytime. Just kinda go with the flow.

yeah, that bothers me as well. i just kinda throw it in but its almost always in beat.

i am just learning this song, and when playing along with l@lc you have to just kind of split the difference in the verse parts to find a timing that fits

This is gonna be hard to explain....dave alternates between 2 ways of playing this part...firstly he plays this:

then this..its a much quicker slide up and back to the Dsus2 thing..

I dont know if that helps but the only way I figured it out was by listening to it carefully, just remember that the second alternation is a faster slide and then makes up for it by hanging on it Dsus2(dont know if that's what its called)...then the 3---2---x on the low E.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't quite figured out the strumming for the second alteration, but it helps to know that he makes for the difference in timing by hanging on to the Dsus2. Now I just need to practice it a lot.

Miguel nailed it right there. Its just a quicker slide and then a pause kind of. Think of it that way, and you're good.
