I have some questions about 12-string Guitars. Are there different techniques between playing 6-string and 12-string guitars? If so, what are they? Are they hard to learn?
I'm just trying to get some info on 12-strings because I'm considering getting one. I've been playing 6-string for a few years now and I'm wondering if now might be a good time to add a 12-string to my guitar arsenal.
I have a 12 string, but the neck is a lot thicker than a normal guitar, and so sometimes my fingers don't quite land where i want them to (it was free so I don't complain).
I've played a 12 string with a normal sized neck once and it was just fine.
My suggestion would be to pick it up and strum some chords, and if it fells right then roll with it.

This is imo the only way they're different playing wise. When your fingerpicking the thumb picks down and the fingers pick up...pretty obvious. So which fingers you use will affect the sound quite a bit, for better or worse.
12 string is harder on the hands and requires better hand/finger control. Some songs sound really good on a 12 string others do not. Think of it as two 6 strings playing together. Open chords sound very nice.
~ And rain washed away all her tears and I smiled done away was the sum of all my fears ~

You got a 12-string guitar for free? What brand/model?
