Guitar Magazines

Post by nate »

I was thinking about getting a subscription to a guitar magazine, like an acoustic guitar monthly or whatever. something that has interviews and lessons and new and old random songs tabbed out to learn. Anyone have any suggestions on magazines that have this stuff. Not to mention it would be nice to have something other than bills to look forward to in the mail.

I read an interview with Dave Navarro once, and he totally ripped apart guitar magazines (funny enough, it was in a guitar magazine). He said something along the lines of reading about what number Jimmy Hendrix puts his gain knob on never helped him play a song better. I agree with him.

I hate most guitar magazines. They seem stupid and cocky.

Then I looked at Guitar World Acoustic. It's so well done, really takes it seriously. The new one, with Waren Hayes, that is good. Also, they just listed 100 great acoustic albums. L@LC is one of them.

saw this list of top 25 greatist acousti guitar moments.

Pissed me off when the only thing I recognized was Led Zepp's Stairway to heaven, I'm not even a big fan of it

Sorry but fuck Stairway to Heaven. Its always hailed as some holy song. Personally I dont like it one bit. And the solo sucks too.

no j/k, but Stairway is and always will be one of my favorite songs. No matter how many times I listen to it. Jimmy does some wicked work there in the solo. And then I found out that when played backwards it's satanic. Doesn't really make it a better song, but it added to the mystique of Led Zeppelin.

the best part of guitar magazines are the ridiculous ads with hot ladies straddling guitars

I love stairway to heaven, always have. I love how the solo sounds, but as far as Jimmy doing some "wicked work"... you might want to consider that he recorded the solo with two overlapping guitar tracks, and he never did it as well live as he did in the studio.

I heard some great live versions of the Stairway solo. Check out the Led dvd that came out last year. As for the overlapping of guitars, one of the reasons that I like them so much is because they used and experimented with some interesting recording tactics, like recording guitar in long hallways.
