what do u need to start recording?

my friend thinking about getting cakewalk guitar tracks pro. anyone ever used this. would he be better off getting pro tools? he got a singing mic but he'd just as soon plug into the comp then get a condenser.

Absolutely, as ProTools is a professional solution that is used on 97% of CD's released today. However, it's likely overkill for your situation. I've only used Cakewalk (not guitar tracks) and didn't like it at all, but I thought I read someone on here a while back recommend it.

well, how professional can it really be if it's only 100 bucks. i mean, i imagine the pros use like some sort of "enterprise" edition that's much better, but, like how many tracks can you record in pro tools. and how many different effects can you have. do they have a drum library?

i ahve Cakewalk Guitar tracks.....its pretty good but if your hooking up your guitar or whatever straight to the computer youd dont get the greatest sound. Im in the proccess of fnding on new program right now.

You get a really cool drum library with Guitar Track v2. (rapbeats, conga/bongo type stuff/ and regular kit)

As for the effects it coems with they are pretty basic. (Reverb, Amp sim, delay, chorus, flanger, etc)

When I'm making money from selling music I'll happily throw down the scratch for software...and that will be never.
It would be wrong to steal the software and profit from it but if your a poor college student I don't think it's that bad.

a cracked version of cool edit with any mic or a guitar with a pickup is the cheapest way to go. Although i have had some difficulty in finding a crack for the latest version

What do you want to know about Pro Tools? It's what I use and it is the best. We work on a a Pro Tool HD/3 A. system. But I think some-one has been miss-informed. Pro Tools is NOT a cheep thing... and it is the best. Some-one said that it cost a 100 Dollars... Hummmm...it must be a VERY VERY OLD Version. My HD/3 A. with a Core Card and Two Accel Cards (for the computer) cost me $12,542.28 . Thats 12,000 for the software and hardware. But that is the HD system. As far as tracks goes Pro Tools can support 96tracks at it's peak... but that isn't where you gain tracks. You need Audio Interfaces... I use the 192 I/O and it supports 16 tracks. We have four 192 I/O... which gives us 64 tracks. The 192I/O is a GREAT interface for analog/digital convert. Anything else about PRO TOOLS I am your man... maybe even woman? No not the woman part.

I think that Cakewalk is an awsome program... for how much it cost it kicks ass... I think it can support an SR of 24 bit... correct me if I'm wrong.

It only worked for Windows 98 and I don't think it's available any more.
