I've got a 2003 414Rce (Satin finished Rosewood back and sides). I really like this guitar. It's a nice contrast to my Martin HD28. The guitar can be a bit bright (like all Taylors), but that can be a good thing in some situations. The ES pickup system is great in that it DOES NOT feedback. Anybody who plays live with a band will appreciate that instantly. No more finding a spot that doesn’t make your acoustic howl and standing there like a zombie for 3 hours.

The rosewood 414's are a great deal; same wood, bracing patterns and construction as the higher end models. The satin finish is growing on me. It doesn’t show every fingerprint and scratch like a gloss finish does.

The setup was pretty bad from the factory, which is unusual for a Taylor. I ordered it from a non-local store so I fixed the setup myself. I lowered the action to just under 4/64ths and 6/64ths and took the neck to close to zero relief. The saddle had to be taken down a little over 1/64th. The nut is still a little high, which makes barre chording at the first few frets a little harder, but I haven’t tackled the nut yet. I'm thinking that I might just install a new bone nut and saddle anyway.

This is my take out and play guitar. The HD28 is my stay at home strummer. It really is the best of both worlds to own a Martin and a Taylor...kinda like having a strat and a les paul in the electric world. I'm pretty happy with this guitar, it looks and sounds great.

Just got a 614-ce Ltd. Summer Strummer. Great guitar. Sounds better then more you play it. Only complaint is, it's not loud enough, but for me nothing is. It's not quiet not even close dont get me wrong. It's a great all around guitar.

I own a 2003 814 CE and a custom walnut 12 string (about 3 weeks old), both with the ES system. Both guitars have a great bright sound. They don't have the base of a Martin however.

The 12 string is new this year, placed the order 0n April 1 and received it near the end of May. If I could figure out how to put pictures on here I would post a few.
